ICL’s Rotem facility has been producing phosphate-based fertilizers in Israel’s Negev desert since 1952. Today, it employs around 950 people and is recognized as a global leader in both commodity and soluble specialty fertilizers. Flagship products include Nova PeaK® (MKP), Nova PeKacid®, Nova MAP®, Nova HiPeaK®, and Nova MagPhos®.
Rotem combines access to local phosphate resources with advanced technology and continuous innovation to develop and manufacture new and innovative phosphate fertilizers. A new PeKacid plant at Rotem will soon expand our production to meet rising global demand.

For more than seven decades, Rotem has been a cornerstone of phosphate production in Israel. Established to make use of the Negev’s natural phosphate deposits, the facility has grown into a key ICL production site supplying fertilizers to agricultural markets worldwide.
Initially focused on commodity fertilizers, Rotem expanded into specialty soluble fertilizers in the 1990s. In 1994, Rotem established new plants dedicated to MKP production, followed by Nova PeKacid, a unique, patented, fully soluble phosphorus and potassium fertilizer developed at the site. In 1997, Rotem doubled its capacity in sulfuric acid, green phosphoric acid, and commodity fertilizers, demonstrating its importance as a center of phosphate fertilizer innovation and production.
Its location near ICL’s phosphate mines ensures reliable access to raw materials, while the nearby Dead Sea Works provides potash for downstream production. Working in partnership with ICL’s IMI-TAMI research center, Rotem continues to evolve through new product development, advanced process systems, digital tools, and a strong focus on efficiency that make Rotem a leader in sustainable phosphate fertilizer production.

Rotem mines phosphate and processes it into green phosphoric acid, which forms the foundation for a wide range of fertilizers and downstream products.

The facility has a long history of producing high-quality commodity fertilizers, expanding in the 1990’s into the production of water-soluble specialty fertilizers, which are widely used in modern agriculture.

In partnership with the TAMI research center, Rotem’s R&D teams continually develop new products and processes. Recent innovations include Nova MagPhos, Nova CalPhos, and other advanced fertilizer solutions.

The facility incorporates advanced digital and automation technologies to ensure efficiency, safety, and sustainability in production. These include AI-driven process control for raw material inputs, drone-assisted inspections and monitoring, and GIS systems for resource and site management.

A new Nova PeKacid production plant is nearing completion. Once operational, it will double our capacity, providing continuous production to meet the growing global demand for this unique ICL product.
