Double Coating Technology (DCT)

Double Coating Technology (DCT) is a patented innovation by ICL, featured in Osmocote® Exact Protect products, designed to deliver precise, delayed nutrient release tailored to the needs of ornamental crops during colder seasons. Each granule is encapsulated in two different layers of coating, which postpones nutrient release for up to three months after application. This delay ensures that nutrients for winter and fall pottings are only made available once the plant is ready to absorb them—typically in early spring—minimizing salt stress and nutrient loss during dormancy. DCT also makes Osmocote® Exact Protect products suitable for potting in greenhouses and tunnels during hot periods of the year. Whereas the high temperatures would lead to higher release of nutrients in other fertilizers, DCT ensures controlled release of nutrients even at very high temperatures.
